Student Data Privacy
Today’s education-focused technologies enable the easy and often unseen transfer of student data from one system to another. At Sangamon Valley, we take student data privacy seriously and are working to comply with Illinois’ new data privacy law known as SOPPA.
What is SOPPA?
Effective July 1, 2021, school districts will be required by the Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA) to provide additional guarantees that student data is protected when collected by educational technology companies, and that data is used for beneficial purposes only. Families are encouraged to learn more about this law by reading this legal brief.
Compliance for Teachers
Teachers, in order to use an online resource with your students our district needs to have a signed agreement with the provider. Please contact Mr. Gorecki if your desired resource is not already on our list.
List of Online Resources
As part of our commitment to transparency, we are maintaining a list of online resources or apps that are used as part of your child’s education. Using the list, you can see the company’s privacy policy, what data they collect, and review the agreements signed by our district.
